BajaEd scholar receives a house from Baja Bound
On January 5th, a group of volunteers, led by Jenifer Castillo, built a house for one of our scholars and her family. Jenifer has worked on eight different construction projects with Baja Bound for years. This time, Jenifer and her friends built a house for a girl named Melannie, a BajaEd scholar.
“We absolutely love doing this. We feel so blessed to do this, and it’s one of our favorite family activities,” said Jenifer. She gathered her family and friends and came to Maneadero to share their blessings with the community.
“I loved the experience,” said Melannie. “Everyone has been so kind to me.” Melannie has been sponsored by BajaEd for almost two years. She is a high school student who has struggled to cover her school expenses due to the economic situation of her family. “I will always remember these people… they showed me love, the love of God. I am grateful for it.”
Melannie, along with her mother and two brothers, is now enjoying a safe and warm house. “They made my dreams come true,” said Isabel, Melannie’s mother. “There’s more I’d like to say, but that’s the main thing… I’m speechless.”
“I believe that we are called to love one another. I would encourage everybody to take your eyes off yourself and try to help those around you,” said Jenifer. “Ultimately, you feel so much joy helping others.”
Baja Bound has provided houses for people in need in the Maneadero neighborhood for years. At least half of our scholars have received a house from Baja Bound. This organization focuses on helping disadvantaged families and has built hundreds of houses in our community. Last year, they built 132 houses. They are a blessing to our people. Thank you, Baja Bound.
