Next month, we have two big events: the Graduation Party and the Backpack Attack. The first celebrates the end of the school year; the second helps us prepare for the year ahead. The BajaEd Graduation Party began in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. When schools were forced to cancel graduations due to lockdowns, BajaEd was deeply concerned. In a place where simply attending school is already a challenge, celebrating the completion of an educational level offers a crucial moment of relief. Celebrating is a chance to catch our breath. And all of a sudden, those who rarely have a reason to celebrate were deprived of that moment. We couldn’t accept that. So we created the Graduation Party to ensure that every student receives the recognition they deserve. The Graduation Party is an evening where scholars and their families come together to celebrate educational achievements. Surrounded by fellow students and generous sponsors, our scholars can witness the powerful impact BajaEd has on families across our community. They can feel the pride we share in watching them succeed. It’s a moment filled with joy, recognition, and gratitude. They made it. We made it. One step at a time. The Backpack Attack is our way of ensuring that students take a strong first step into the new school year. Given the economic challenges our students face, it’s essential they start school with the supplies they need. In Mexico, unlike in the United States, students must purchase all of their school supplies out of pocket. Starting the year without adequate resources can place a heavy burden on our scholars and their families. There is bitter irony in earning minimum wage because you lacked access to education—only to spend that limited income on your children’s schooling. It’s a difficult reality many of our families endure. The Backpack Attack is more than a supply drive - it’s a chance to reconnect with our students and families. It’s a day to reflect, plan, and reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside them every step of the way, one step at a time. If you’ve ever considered bringing joy to a stranger’s life, this is your opportunity. If you want to help a graduate celebrate their success, you can. If you want to give a student the tools they need to start the school year with confidence, now is the time. Your donation means so much - to these students, to us, and to our community. And the best part? You’ll be part of their success. You’ll be part of an important step. Because even if we’re moving one step at a time, we’re moving forward.
